Marokopa Road

Slightly of the beaten track is the Marokopa Road, heading west from Waitomo Caves toward the coast. It is a scenic drive that boasts some absolutely stunning scenery.

Take the Te Anga road, which shortly turns into the Marokopa Road, after 26km you come across the Mangapohue Scenic Reserve.

The main feature of the Mangapohue Reserve is the giant natural limestone bridge. It’s a short circular walk around 20-30mins. Bring a torch and you can have a look in Piripiri caves.

Once the site of a natural cave following the river, the cave grew too large and the roof collasped, leaving behind a small section which forms a bridge.

Marokopa Falls

Only a short trip down the road is the impressice Marokopa falls. This whole area is definately a worthwhile way to spend an afternoon. Of the beaten track so it is not so busy.
